NFL Head Coaches News and Update: Lions Hire Caldwell; Whisenhunt to Coach Titans
NFL head coaching positions are among the most difficult jobs to land and also among the most difficult jobs to keep.
In the latest of many offseason head coaching moves that have already been made this year, the Detroit Lions hired former Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell and the Tennessee Titans brought in Ken Whisenhunt, who spent six seasons as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
There have been a great deal of coaching moves already this season and there is still one more week of conference playoffs before the Super Bowl takes place in New York.
Among other coaches that have been hired this offseason include Jay Gruden, the brother of former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. The Washington Redskins hired Jay after the team parted ways with coach Mike Shanahan after a disappointing season in 2014.
One coach that emerged from the college scene this year was Former Penn State coach Bill O'Brien, who was hired as the head coach of the Houston Texans after the team fired Gary Kubiak in the middle of the season. Romeo Crennel is interested in becoming the defensive coordinator there, according to NFL.com
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired coach Greg Schiano as expected this offseason but not many people were too sure who would end up with the head coaching job in the offseason. It turned out that this offseason was a perfect one to look for head coaches and the team hired former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith. Leslie Frazier, who was just fired from his head coaching job with the Vikings, is the new Defensive Coordinator in Tampa Bay.
