Lupillo Rivera vs. Chiquis Rivera: 'Despreciado' Singer Urges Niece to Stop Talking About Him
The public confrontation between Lupillo Rivera and his niece, Chiquis, took yet another turn this week when the Mexican ranchero star asked the 29-year-old to no longer speak about him, La Opinión reported.
"I ask you to quit talking about me in interviews because I feel you only do so to provoke," Rivera wrote in a message posted on social networks.
The 43-year-old has maintained a longstanding dispute with Chiquis, the eldest daughter of his sister, Jenni Rivera, who was killed in a plane crash near Iturbide, in Mexico's Nuevo León state, in late 2012. Chiquis has frequently accused her uncle of failing to travel to the accident site to recover Jenni's remains, but Lupillo insists the falling out has nothing to do with the incident -- and, in fact, predates it.
"Two years and a half ago, as everybody knows, I had an issue with a member of my family, which affected my two children," Lupillo underlined, according to La Opinión. "And until now, the person in question has not grown up (enough) to come and ask for forgiveness; my wife and I do not need an apology, but my son does deserve it."
In March, Lupillo said he hoped to celebrate his 20th career anniversary by singing a duet with Chiquis, TV Notas noted. But their plans to work together on a commemorative disk and concert did not flourish, and Lupillo confirmed this week that he will not participate in the "Jenni Vive 2015" show, La Opinión said.
"I am sorry that I cannot attend this great event (because) great work is being done," he explained. "But I am not going to be able to attend because I simply do not like hypocrisy; I cannot step onto a stage before thousands of spectators and fake a smile when, in truth, I am feeling uncomfortable."
Rivera said he had no doubts that his fans would understand and appreciate his attitude.
"I want to thank all followers -- and thank all of you for the support you have given my sister during her stellar career," he wrote. And "I want to thank you for continuing to support her music and for supporting me and my thoughts."
