WWE Ultimate Warrior News: Legendary Wrestler To Be Inducted in the Wrestling Hall of Fame After 18 Year Absence
After nearly two decades out of the spotlight, WWE wrestling legend The Ultimate Warrior will be inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. His induction is the first induction of 2014 and, needless to say, it's sparking the obvious question that fans had: where has he been, and what took so long?
According to Philly.com, Warrior -- born James Helliwig, and having legally changed his name to "Warrior" -- will be inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame the night before the historic Wrestlemania XXX. In the 1980s he became best known for taking the World Championship title from the then-indomitable Hulk Hogan. With his colorful attire, larger-than-life personality, and impressive stature, he became one of the early wrestling generation's superstars. In 1999, he retired from wrestling to embark on a public speaking career, but returned to the ring with a vengeance in 2008, when he wrestled in Barcelona, Spain.
Unfortunately, in between those years, he got into a lot of trouble with the WWE, leading to the company releasing a DVD called "The Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior" in 2005.
"The Ultimate Warrior was the most intense, colorful, competitive and outspoken superstar in sports-entertainment history, and his contributions to WWE were extraordinary," WWE's Vince McMahon said on WWE.com. "We are thrilled to induct the Ultimate Warrior into the WWE Hall of Fame."
This is a far cry from the battles that McMahon and the rest of the WWE waged on the once-great wrestler. But according to Yahoo!, the first sign that the tensions between them had thawed was when it was confirmed that The Ultimate Warrior would appear in the game WWE 2K14 as a playable character.
And, of course, this isn't the first time that McMahon thawed out relations after a huge falling out with a wrestling star; Bruno Sammartino, who is by far one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, was also recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, even though he was one of McMahon's most vocal opponents for many years (an opinion that hasn't changed much).
Now, the question begs itself: who will induct The Ultimate Warrior into the Hall of Fame? And when will Randy "Macho Man" Savage get HIS induction?
