'Proof' Season 1 News Update: First Reviews Give New TNT Series Good Reviews
With four days until the premiere of TNT's latest show "Proof," the first reviews have been released.
The Hollywood Reporter gave the show a good review, stating, "Hit the sweet spot between silly and sublime." However, it noted that the show could have easily been a disaster since it sounded incredibly confusing.
The magazine concluded that the first three episodes the network sent over for review were actually very good, but it was still important to see the last seven episodes of the first season to see if the show actually works.
TNT hopes "Proof" will bring another hit as the network has had with "The Closer," "Falling Skies," "The Last Ship" and "The Librarians."
However, it will be interesting to see what other critics say about the show. While the Hollywood Reporter was positive it did note that the show isn't perfect and can sometimes be silly. It will be interesting to see if other critics have the same issues and how that will affect the ratings and eventual plans for a second season.
TNT has built a huge marketing campaign putting billboards in major cities and showing a number of TV ads. How effective the strategy is will be seen when the first episode airs on June 16.
The series is set to star Jennifer Beals, Callum Blue, Edi Gathegi, Caroline Rose Kaplan, Matthew Modine and Joe Morton. Serving as executive producers for the show are Kyra Sedgwick ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Closer"), Rob Bragin ("Greek," "Murphy Brown"), Tom Jacobson ("Uncle Buck," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), Jill Littman and Alex Graves ("Game of Thrones," "The West Wing").
TNT will present 10 episodes for the first season and, based on reviews and audience, the network will order a second season. The series will air at 10 p.m.
