Rumors say the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is slated for a September debut with an unbreakable flexible screen.

"According to South Korea's Asiae, the Galaxy Note III will sport a 5.9-inch Full HD flexible AMOLED display. That 'unbreakable' polymer film display will likely be one of the key features that Samsung touts when it unveils the device," Phandroid writes.

Of course, the body of the phone itself isn't flexible or stretchy, so you won't be crumpling up your Note 3 any time soon. But if you drop it (and for most people, the larger the phone, the easier it is to drop), the screen absorbs the impact instead of shattering.

I wouldn't recommend trying to break it, but it should protect any new phones equipped with it from one of the most common phone killers: gravity.

It also means screens will be more resilient in crowded backpacks or purses. With the advent of phones like the waterproof Sony Xperia Z, are we about to see the emergence of more rugged tech?

This isn't the first time we've heard rumors of a new flexi-screen. The Note II was supposed to have it, and it didn't. The Galaxy S4 was supposed to have it, and it didn't. Maybe third time's the charm?

The Galaxy Note III is still a long way off and won't be released until later this year. But rumors indicate it will have a 5.9-inch screen with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera, a bigger battery and run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. An unconfirmed source says the Note III will debut in Berlin in September.
