FIFA Women’s World Cup Group F Schedule & Live Stream: France vs Colombia, Mexico vs England Match Preview
Group F teams France, Colombia, Mexico and England will resume their campaign in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup on Saturday in Canada.
France vs. Colombia
France will look to move one step closer to clinching a spot in the Round-of-16 of the tournament when they go up against Colombia at the Moncton Stadium.
France are currently on top of the group after earning three points in their opening game of the tournament. Eugenie Le Sommer struck a goal in the 29th minute of their debut match to give France a narrow 1-0 win against England on Tuesday in Moncton, Canada.
On the other hand, Colombia was on the verge of surrendering three points in their tournament opener after allowing Veronica Perez of Mexico to score in the 36th minute of the match. The Mexican side looked on their way to winning the match, but Daniela Montoya scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute to force a draw.
England vs. Mexico
Meanwhile, England will look to bounce back from a disappointing start in the tournament when they go up against Mexico in the other Group F match of the day.
England coach Mark Sampson was disappointed of their performance against France, but the 32-year-old mentor said that they are looking at the positive side of the situation as they still have a good chance to advance the next round.
A win against Mexico will give England three points on the table, and Sampson thinks a draw in their final group match will be enough for them to advance to the next round.
Sampson admitted, though, that they are not expecting walk in the park against their Mexican rivals. The two teams faced each other in the 2011 World Cup, which ended in a 1-1 draw. While the two teams underwent changes this year, Sampson expects another tough assignment on Saturday.
"The Mexicans will be a difficult test for us," Sampson said via The Guardian. "They're very open. They've got players in forward areas who can cause you problems and they've got clever players in midfield protecting a very aggressive back four. It's typical South American front-foot defending."
