'American Gods' TV Series Release Date & Rumors: Starz Confirm TV Adaptation of Neil Gaiman Original
Fans of English author Neil Gaiman will soon have another thing to be excited about. Word is out that his book "American Gods" has been given the green light to be adapted into a television series.
The announcement was made on the Starz official website. The company will distribute the FremantleMedia-produced series.
Bryan Fuller, who is known for his work in "Hannibal," "Heroes" and "Pushing Daisies," will run the show with Michael Green. Green is popular for his experience in "Heroes" and "Kings." Both will also pen the script for the TV adaptation of the fantasy novel.
"STARZ is committed to bring 'American Gods' to its legion of fans," said Starz CEO Chris Albrecht. "With our partners at FremantleMedia and with Bryan, Michael and Neil guiding the project, we hope to create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans, who have been casting it in their minds for years. The search for Shadow begins today!"
Gaiman, who authored the novel, will join the crew as executive producer of the series. He expressed his trust and delight to the people who will work on bringing the book to the small screen.
"I am thrilled, scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation. The team that is going to bring 'American Gods' to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie."
During the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Fuller already expressed his excitement towards his new project.
"I was raised a Catholic, Michael Green was raised Jewish, so we both have fascination with these great mythological stories," the showrunner shared, as quoted by Variety.
Fuller added that the English author gave him and Green a lot of leeway to explore the characters in the series.
"It's an immigration story really, at its heart, so its feels like we can unpack that in a way that allows us to tell a signature story," added the screenwriter.
With everything set, the producers have already begun searching for the right actors to be part of the cast.
To show that the showrunners value the input of the book's supporters, they have invited the fans to suggest actors who they think will be right for the role of Shadow, through a social media hashtag, #CastingShadow.
The release date for the TV series has not yet been announced.
