Batman vs Superman Movie Casting, Rumors, and News: Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum Interested in Lex Luthor Role
The Batman vs. Superman movie, also known as the Man of Steel sequel, has yet to cast its Lex Luthor. A familiar face has expressed interest in the role. Meanwhile, rumors of Justice League heroes appearing in the film continue to swirl.
Joaquin Phoenix and Bryan Cranston have been rumored to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. Michael Rosenbaum, however, already has Lex Luthor's manic behavior down to a T. The former Smallville actor said that he would love to reprise the role, especially for his fans.
"The fans have been unbelievable," Rosenbaum told Media Mikes. "They've tweeted me. I've tweeted back ... I've been to conventions, and they always ask me, 'Would you do it?'"
Although Rosenbaum portrayed Lex Luthor from 2001 until 2011, he thinks Phoenix is a more likely contender.
"And I'm not an idiot. Of course I'd do it," he said. "I'd love to do it, but I think Joaquin Phoenix is probably gonna do it or somebody."
Rosenbaum might be typecasted as a small screen Lex Luthor, but he is sure he would succeed on the big screen as well.
"Obviously, I think I could play the role," he explained. "I would do it in a heartbeat, but I don't hold my breath because I know there's the stigma: 'He was the TV 'Smallville' Lex Luthor.' I say that sarcastically, but I think it's a shame. If people like the role and what I did with it, then they should consider it, but I'm not the director. I'm not the producer. Long story short, I'd do it in a fucking heartbeat."
In addition to Lex Luthor's role, the role of Aquaman is under scrutiny. The biggest question is whether or not the hero of the seas will even appear in the movie.
Jason Momoa recently denied rumors he was being considered for the role, adding credibility to Batman-on-Film's report that neither Aquaman nor Martian Manhunter will appear in the Man of Steel sequel. According to Badass Digest, however, Aquaman might have a smaller role.
"I was recently told by a very, very trusted source that the role Jason Momoa was up for (but is currently denying) is definitely Aquaman, but it's essentially a cameo setting up the next movie," the website said.
Josh Holloway is also rumored to be under consideration for the role.
The Man of Steel sequel will be released Jul. 17, 2015.
