LG G4 Pro Release Date, Specs, & Features Rumors: Is This the LG G4 Pro Coming in 2015? More Like Yeah Right
Rumors about a plus, max or pro model of the already-popular high-powered 2015 LG G4 flagship smartphone have been on the net since before the LG G4 was official, but now there are some incredible specs rumors coming out of China that defy belief.
Hence, take this with a hefty grain of salt, or just as food for thought.
According to a post found on Chinese website Weibo and reposted by a Russian mobile news site (via Phone Arena), the LG G4 Pro is indeed going to have a release date in 2015 (unveiling October, according to the rumor reports), and will pack quite a wallop, hardware wise.
Specifically, the LG G4 Pro purportedly features a 5.8-inch screen, packing a 2K (1440 x 2560p) resolution. So far, not too crazy.
It'll feature 4GB of RAM, with an internal storage option of 32GB or 64GB (and assuming the same built-type as the LG G4, microSD expansion -- though that was not part of the rumor report). Still not unheard of.
But also part of the specs report: Purportedly LG will avoid all overheating issues with the Snapdragon 810 -- and avoid under-powering the device with a Snapdragon 808 -- by incorporating a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 system on a chip.
This is where things get a little unbelievable, because it's unclear if Qualcomm would even be at the stage to manufacture enough Snapdragon 820 SoC's for the LG G4 Pro, even in a limited production run.
The latest news on the Snapdragon 820 comes from Re/code's exclusive on the next high-end ARM processor, which basically stated that Samsung will be manufacturing Qualcomm's next generation SoC "for the 2016 flagship models from the leading phone makers).
That's 2016, not October 2015. Even though Qualcomm states the Snapdragon 820 would be at a sampling stage in its development by later this year, that's not the same thing as mass production. Qualcomm is also purportedly going to be using a new advanced manufacturing process for wiring at increasingly tiny specifications, but that indicates it will take longer than other chips to get to market, if anything.
On top of that particular spec pushing the limits of believability, the most recent LG G4 Pro rumor report states that the device will come with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a 27-megapixel main camera -- something that would be unlikely for a manufacturer that's already gotten plenty of critical acclaim for its 16-megapixel shooter on the LG G4.
Finally, as Phone Arena blithely put it, "an all-metal body is confirmed." So LG is going to suddenly redesign its smartphones, manufacturing process, hardware priorities, and build materials after releasing a plastic-backed LG G4? Believe it (only) when you see it.
Nevertheless, this provides interesting food for thought on the evolution of high-end phablets, and where we might be in about a year's time. I'll happily eat crow if this LG G4 Pro comes out in October (and I'd probably buy it as well!), but for the time being, remain skeptical.
