The Nvidia Shield Tablet 2 is the second gaming-focused tablet from Nvidia. This time, the tablet will be lighter and more powerful, Tech Radar reports. 

The Nvidia Shield Tablet 2 will run Android just like the original, except this time it will run the updated Lollipop 5.1 operating system instead of the older KitKat version. The next Shield tablet will be affordable too, costing just $299 for the Wi-Fi version. Even with the cheap price tag, the Shield Tablet 2 will still be getting improvements.

The Shield Tablet 2 will feature an 8-inch screen with a great 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. That is the same resolution as the 7-inch Nexus 7. It does weigh 13.1 ounces, which is about three ounces heavier than the Nexus 7. Still, it is much lighter than the original Shield, which weighed 1 pound and 4.7 ounces.

The Shield Tablet 2 is heavier than the Nexus 7 because of its extra inch of screen space and an extra internal thermal shield to keep the device cool.

On the back of the Shield Tablet 2 is a slip-resistant surface and a 5 megapixel (MP) camera. The front of the device has a 5 MP front-facing camera and two front-facing speakers. For a tablet, these speakers have excellent sound.

On the side of the tablet there are ports for Micro USB, Mini HDMI out and a microSD slot.

The Shield Tablet 2 is powered by Nvidia's own Tegra K1 mobile superchip. This quad-core chip runs at 2.2 GHz and has 2 GB of RAM. This processor also gives the tablet excellent graphics that gamers will really enjoy.

Nvidia says that Shield Tablet 2 users will get up to 10 hours of video viewing and web browsing activity before needing to charge the battery. Gaming would be limited to five hours before the tablet will need a charge.

According to PC Advisor, the Shield Tablet 2 is expected to be released in August, similar to 2014's original Shield Tablet.
