Fans of the upcoming Superman vs. Batman film will have to wait a little while longer, because it's been confirmed that the film will be pushed back an extra year.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the film, which stars Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, as well as Israeli actress Gal Godot as Wonder Woman, will see a release date of 2016 as opposed to the original 2015. The Times picked up a press release from the studio that states that the move will allow "the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story."

No one is sure what that really means, but it's safe to say that it will definitely be a little while before the big screen will see the epic showdown between the two superheroes.

The film has already met with its fair share of controversy, as we all know. Chief amongst the concerns of the fans was the casting choice of Affleck as Batman, especially such a short time after Christian Bale made the role famous. When the choice of Affleck was originally announced, fans took to social media sites the world over, including Twitter, to lambast the choice. However, according to MSN, the movie's director Joss Whedon released a statement on Twitter saying that he had full faith in Affleck's abilities to take the Caped Crusader to the big screen.

"He's got the chops, he's got the chin - just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe - I'm in," he wrote.

"The superhero-duo was originally slated for July 17, 2015, and Warner Bros. said it would put a still untitled Peter Pan adventure into that slot. "We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases," said Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution," reports MSN.
