Whoopi Goldberg Selling Her Berkeley Compound for $1.3M
Actress Whoopi Goldberg is parting with her longtime home in Berkeley.
The 59-year-old comedian, who won an Academy Award for "Ghost," is selling her two-story home for almost $1.3 million or $1,275,000 to be exact, reported Redfin.
The listing describes the actress' residence resting on 0.32 acres of lot as a "beautifully restored 1890 Victorian" property that showcases soaring ceilings and some exquisite interior features that homebuyers may find amazing.
Built in 1890, the property offers not just a charming 1,455-square-foot home but a barn that has been transformed into a comfortable and even larger, 1,635-square-foot cottage. The home, which is being offered on the market for the first time in three decades, includes three bedrooms and one and half bathrooms. Five garages are also available.
Meanwhile, the updated kitchen comes with a counter, dishwasher, a microwave, a garbage disposal, a refrigerator, a range with an oven and an eat-in area.
Other living spaces in the estate include a den, a family room, a library, an unfinished basement, a living room and a patio.
Photos of the home that belongs to Caryn Elaine Johnson, Goldberg's real name, can also be seen on the listing site. Based on the images, the home looks inviting and welcoming with the simple and low wooden picket fence. Inside, visitors will find an elegant two-story home showing chic and stylish details such as sleek hanging lights, modern and high-end appliances in the kitchen, trendy textured furniture, artistic paintings and unique-looking decors. The home also looks bright and airy courtesy of white painted walls and high ceilings.
The cottage, on the other hand, has truly been renovated to fit the modern times, although it still hints the rustic and woodsy appeal in a creative way. Several property finders will appreciate how the flooring, walls and even the ceilings boast wood as the main building material, giving the cottage its natural beauty and warmth. However, some modern details were also added like the smooth first level and smooth granite-looking counter tops in the kitchen, modern appliances and wide and tall windows.
Outdoors, the grounds are adorned with vibrant flower-bearing plants.
Goldberg bought the property in 1985 for only $335,000, Los Angeles Times noted, citing real estate records. Colleen Larkin of Thornwall Properties is handling the listing.
Aside from the Berkeley property, the actress, who also amazed movie fans for her performance in "The Color Purple," offered her 6,100-square-foot Vermont property on the market for $2.3 million in 2011, according to Variety.
