The Rum Diaries tanked at the box office, and it also tanked Johnny Depp's longtime relationship with Vanessa Paradis because that's where Depp met Amber Heard, the 26-year-old former Maxim beauty who, according to reports, is now engaged to the 51-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star!

According to USA Today, People Magazine has confirmed what everyone in Hollywood has been speculating for the past few weeks -- the duo are engaged! Even though Johnny was in a very long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis, and that union produced 2 children, the duo were never engaged or married, leaving Johnny free to leave as he pleased without any legal obligation to Paradis. (See, ladies, this is why it doesn't pay to be a baby mama or a forever-girlfriend... get that ring, raise your standards, and wake up already!)

Johnny said that the split with Paradis was "difficult on all sides."

The rumors about the duo's engagement began to really pick up steam, according to KMOV TV, when Heard was seen getting out of a car sporting a huge rock on her left hand (the traditional "engagement"/"wedding" hand). Now that the wedding is going forward, the future is looking bright for the two actors. They will appear together again on the big screen later this year with London Fields.

This will be the first marriage for both actors, despite Depp's impressive dating. Pst -- that includes Kate Moss, Jennifer Grey, Sherilyn Fenn, and Winona Ryder... the latter of which inspired him to get a tattoo that said "Winona Forever." When they split, he had the tattoo edited to read "Wino Forever."

For her part, Amber, who identifies as bisexual, was previously linked to photographer Tasya van Ree.
