NFL Playoff Results & Super Bowl: Seahawks, Broncos Win Conference Titles
After winning conference titles on Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos are off to the Big Apple for Super Bowl XLVIII.
Perhaps the most ironic part of it all is that Peyton is playing for a Super Bowl in brother Eli's home stadium while Eli won a Super Bowl in Peyton's old stomping grounds of Indianapolis in the 2011-2012 NFL season.
As far as Peyton's path to the Super Bowl, his team's impressive win over the Patriots on Sunday was one of the most difficult things to do in the postseason. Although Tom Brady and Manning tend to downplay their matchups against each other since they do not face each other directly, we learned that they actually do compete because one of their main jobs is keeping each other off the field.
"To keep Tom Brady on the sideline is a good thing," Manning said after the game. "That's something you try to do when you're playing the Patriots."
Manning's family -- including his father, Archie, and brother, Peyton -- greeted him after the game was over.
Meanwhile, in Seattle, the Seahawks just narrowly escaped with a win at their home stadium while Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers fell short in their attempt to win back to back NFC Titles. Even more unfortunate for the team, they now have gotten to at least the NFC Championship game for two seasons in a row but have yet to come through with a Super Bowl title.
"It's tough. Any time you get this close to the Super Bowl and lose, it's pretty upsetting," tight end Vernon Davis said. "We just didn't get it. We've been down this road before in the same kind of situation. It's hard."
As for the Seahawks, they have some time to enjoy the victory before the Super Bowl in February.
"This is really special," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "It would really be a mistake to not remember the connection and the relationship between this football team and the 12th Man and these fans. It's unbelievable."
