Sergio Ramos Transfer to Manchester United News Update: De Gea Swap Possible; Jesper Cillessen Would Be Goalie Replacement for Red Devils
Manchester United remains in the headlines looking to make some big splashes this summer.
Louis van Gaal has seemingly found an ace in the hole regarding David De Gea's future with Real Madrid. The move was not of his own making however.
Contract negotiations between Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos have apparently gotten so bad that the player is now looking for a way out of Spain's capital and could be looking to play for the Red Devils. So apparently Van Gaal has used this discontent in his favor and used it to try and lure the defender.
What is he doing?
According to sources, Van Gaal will let Real Madrid have De Gea, but only if they are given Ramos in return. For United, getting Ramos would be a coup because the backline was often the team's Achilles heel through 2014-15. Having Ramos would be a huge upgrade.
Losing De Gea seems more manageable at this point in time as it seems that team has already targeted his replacement.
According to Metro.co.uk, Jesper Cillessen is Van Gaal's target to replace the Spaniard. It is actually a nice fit for a number of reasons. Cillessen was Van Gaal's goalie of choice in last summer's World Cup, putting up a number of brilliant performances for his nation as the Dutch made a run to third place in Brazil. Few remember that it was Cillessen's brilliant save against David Silva in the opening game that denied Spain a 2-0 lead that would likely have changed the complexion of that match. It is safe to say the 5-1 win for the Dutch never would have materialized under that circumstance.
Another reason that Cillessen is a nice option is because he is just 26 and likely has a good six to seven years left in him as a number one keeper. Of course, his current club Ajax seems intent on keeping him but Manchester's money could have the final word.
