Madonna Racist? Diva Uses N-word on Instagram; Issues Fail Apology
Oops! Madonna is now facing backlash following a caption on an Instagram photo that used a racial slur in the hashtag posted Friday, January 17.
Billboard reports that the 55-year-old singer uploaded a snapshot of her son, 13-year-old Rocco Ritchie in a boxing match with the message, "No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out!" along with the hashtag "#disni--a."
Madonna, who has a 1.1 million-strong followers quickly deleted the caption containing the racial hastag following a stream of berating comments.
The iconic 'Material Girl' then replaced the caption with, "Ok let me start this again. #get off of my d--k haters!"
Upset comments as to the disrespectful slur included @mamap_nutz who was reported to comment, "Really @madonna??!!! Why do u think it's EVER appropriate for ANYONE to use the word?!! Total disrespect." The comment has been deleted along with the controversial photo and caption.
Madonna has issued an apology on Saturday after the furor raised by Instagram users. In a statement to the Associated Press, Madonna asks, "Forgive me."
Insisting that the term was used as an endearment, the pop star's full apology statement, which has also been deleted, said: "I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur. I am not a racist. There's no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it's a provocative word and I apologise if it gave people the wrong impression," reports RollingStone.
Following this, she added another post with the caption, "MY job is to inspire and bring people together . My message has always been about tolerance and non judgement. The last thing I want to do is bring chaos or cause separation in anyway. #revolutionoflove" says Rollingstone.
Some are dismissing the use of the word as ignorance or a momentary slip while some are not satisfied.
LaineyGossip writes that the apology in itself is also quite offensive. The report notes that the use of "if" has no conviction and leaves room for the lack of admission of wrong doing.
@hoeFOH also tweeted, "Madonna has been around since slavery there's no way in hell I'm letter her get away with saying 'ni**a"
Madonna has four children, including Rocco. Her other three kids are Lourdes, David and Mercy. Mercy and David are black, adopted from the African nation of Malawi, write Fox News.
