With only six months until the end of the year, a number of Oscar contenders showed footage at the CineEurope convention.

One of the biggest films that revealed first clips was Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "The Revenant." The new film by the Oscar winner stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. During the conference, Inarritu sent a video message in which he said, "After 'Birdman' I decided to tackle a different kind of genre and adventure."

The film has already been in the press for a number of months as it was shot with no lights and was also one of the most difficult shoots the actors had to be part of. DiCaprio is already getting Oscar buzz, and based on Inarritu's track record, this could be the actor's lucky film.

During the Universal conference director Tom Hooper and Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne sent a video message, describing the film as an "extraordinary love story" between his character and that of his co-star Alicia Vikander. The film has been highly publicized as most are already predicting Redmayne will get his second Oscar nomination and it will be released by Focus features.

In the video Hooper also said that when he first read the script he "thought about Eddie for the role," and gave him it to read while on the set of their last collaboration, "Les Miserables." Hooper has become one of the most embraced directors in recent times as he won the Oscar for his 2010 film "The King's Speech." "Les Miserables" picked eight Oscars and went on to win three.

The presentation also included a trailer for "Steve Jobs." The biopic was directed by Danny Boyle and it will star Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen and Kate Winslet. The film has been very appealing for a while since the script was written by Aaron Sorkin and was dumped by Sony. Oscar buzz has been spreading for a while but it will be interesting to see if the film lives up to its promise.

The conference also saw three exclusive scenes from "The Light Between Oceans" by director Derek Cianfrance. The film is expected to be on the festival circuit this year and a potential Oscar player. The drama starring Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander is expected to take audiences on an emotionally harrowing journey.

Other films that also screened clips included Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" and Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies."

Oscar season may still be months away but Hungary has already made its bid for the Academy Awards and hopes to make a splash. Additionally, in a few weeks the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals will start to announce their slates and that will give audiences a better idea of what films will be in conversation.

CineEurope will run until June 25 and expects many of the studios to unveil trailers and film news.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts, and Sciences will announce the Oscar nominations in January with the ceremony taking place at the end of February.
