Brazil vs. Paraguay Copa America 2015: Predictions, Schedule, Live Stream, Preview
Brazil proved that it could live without Neymar. The question of course is, for how long?
The team managed an impressive and cohesive win over Venezuela to clinch the top spot in Group C, but doubt remains.
Despite finally looking competent offensive, Brazil looked rather questionable at the back, letting Venezuela come one header away from tying the game after trailing 2-0. More problematic was the fact that coach Dunga put four central defenders on the pitch at the same time precisely to quell any Venezuelan attacks.
This of course will excite Paraguay, which overcame a 2-0 hole against title favorite Argentina, pushing Gerardo Martino's troops to the edge and exposing their defensive frailties.
Some expected Paraguay to be a group punching bag after a failed World Cup qualification round last year, but the team has looked poised and aggressive in this group stage. The group may still not be a contender, but it has the ability to surprise and shock at the opportune moment. Through four games, Paraguay has as many goals as Brazil and has yet to lose a game in the tournament.
Brazil will look to build on its 2-1 win over Venezuela, particularly in the offensive realm where Robinho was magical in linking up with Roberto Firminho and Willian on offense. Both of those players managed to find offensive magic together on the second goal, and Willian was undeniably the most dominant player on the pitch throughout.
More importantly, without Neymar, Brazil's players seemed to take on a new responsibility that they seemed either afraid or unwilling to grab from their polarizing captain. Without Neymar Willian went from supporting cast member to leading star. It should be interesting to see whether this carries over or whether Brazil's latest exploits were simply a flash in the pan.
Prediction: Paraguay inches by with a 1-0 win.
