Kanye West Blames Himself For Mother Donda West’s Death
During a recent interview with Q, Kanye West opened up about his mother Donda's death and his life as husband to Kim Kardashian West and father to their baby daughter North West, Us Weekly reports.
When asked to name what he's had to sacrifice in order to be successful and famous, West replied, "My mom."
West expressed his belief that his decision to move to Los Angeles with his mother was the reason for her death.
"If I had never moved to LA she'd be alive," West said. "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."
Us Weekly reports that Donda, who was an English professor, died at the age of 58 from complications following a plastic surgery procedure.
Though he no longer has his mother physically by his side, West is happy about the family he has created with his wife Kim Kardashian West.
West revealed that while he is in Europe recording his seventh solo album that is tentatively titled "Swish," he dedicates six hours of the day to spend with baby North.
"While [Nori's] here in Europe I have to have six hours a day with her because otherwise I'll just work and she'll get scheduled around meetings," he explained. "Instead, the meetings get scheduled around her."
Back in January, West and Paul McCartney released their single "Only One" about North and Donda.
In the "Only One" press release obtained by Consequence of Sound, West explains that "Only One" emerged during a moment in the studio when West felt as though his mother, Donda, was speaking through him to North.
"My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter," he said.
West insists that the lyrics to the song's chorus that read, "Hello, my only one. Just like the morning sun. You'll keep on rising till the sky knows your name," are lyrics that his mother created through him.
"Something powerful and undeniable had occurred through the power of music and of letting go. A message had been passed down through generations," concludes the press release.
