Star Wars Episode 7 Movie Cast, Rumors, and News: Carrie Fisher Officially Confirms Role as Leia, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill Also Will Return
The rumors have been going on for a while, but now Carrie Fisher has confirmed what many of us in the Star Wars fanbase knew to be true: the Original Fab Three -- Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford -- will return to the roles that catapulted them into the pop culture landscape in "Star Wars: Episode VII"!
According to The Belfast Telegraph, in a recent interview with TV Guide, Fisher confirmed that she will resume her role of Princess Leia in the much-anticipated film, which is scheduled for release in 2015. "I'd like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again -- but with white hair," she said. "I think that would be funny."
In the same interview, she also confirmed that Mark Hamill will resume the role of Luke Skywalker, and Harrison Ford will return as everyone's favorite swashbuckling space pirate (infinitely cooler than Jack Sparrow), Han Solo. Finally, she also confirmed that the shooting will begin in March or April of this year.
But can we really expect to see Han, Luke, & Leia reunited on the big screen? According to The Guardian, when asked the same question about his role, Hamill played it coy, while claiming that he wasn't being coy. "The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn't stopped beeping about it." Hamill added: "I'm not being coy, really. When I find something out, I'll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet."
Meanwhile, the same paper is reporting that Pixar -- the multiple Oscar-winning, Disney-owned animation studio -- may be picking up some of the mantle when it comes to the "spinoff" films, which will also focus on some seminal characters' origin stories (specifically, Boba Fett, Yoda, and Chewbacca). "Maybe you don't want a live-action movie of how Young Han Solo met Chewbacca, but if Pixar did it, maybe it'd be tolerable," wrote the site.
In the meantime, we'll just have to wait and see who will be cast alongside Hamill, Fisher, and Ford in the film. As has been previously reported, the list of names reportedly being considered for roles in the film include Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving, Adam Driver (of Girls), Michael B. Jordan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dominic Monaghan, Jack O'Connell, and Jennifer Lawrence (again, note the dearth of female characters -- potential or otherwise).
