Before Tuesday afternoon, Apple pushed out the update to its iOS software.

iOS was updated to version 8.4 and it includes the brand new Apple Music service, CNet reports.

The release of iOS 8.4 will be the last major update to the operating system before iOS 9 is released this fall.

The highlight of iOS 8.4 is definitely Apple Music, a subscription-based music service similar to Spotify. Besides Apple Music, iOS 8.4 offers bug fixes and improvements to the iBooks app, Mac Rumors reports.

Apple Music will be available to users in over 100 countries on devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. To preview the service, Apple is offering a free three-month trial to all users. To activate the free trial, users will be prompted to enter their passcode and must have a credit card stored on file.

Apple shied away from the subscription-based music listening model and instead offered individual song downloads for purchase and storage on users' devices permanently. Apple kept itself out of offering an on-demand model like Spotify for years. Users eventually switched their preferences towards streaming music and on-demand songs and this allowed Spotify and other services to become extremely popular.

Apple needs to find a way of distinguishing their service as better or different than the others. One unique feature that Apple Music has that the others don't is Siri, which allows users to give voice commands to the music software.

Once updated to iOS 8.4, users will find their Music icon has slightly changed in appearance and color. By clicking on the Music icon for the first time, users will be prompted to start their three-month trial.

Also added with Apple Music is the new Beats 1 radio station. Beats 1 is a worldwide 24-hour radio station that is hosted by real DJs.
