Ronda Rousey Next Fight: 'Rowdy' Says UFC 190 Fight With Bethe Correia is 'Extremely Personal'
UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is taking her upcoming fight in the UFC to the next level. The 28-year-old fighter vowed to serve an unforgettable defeat to Bethe Correia for the personal comments she made regarding Rousey's life leading to the match.
The former Olympian will meet the Brazilian contender at UFC 190 to defend her title this August in Rio de Janeiro.
"The fight has become extremely personal to me and I've never wanted to beat someone so badly in my life," said Rousey to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting. "And I'm definitely not gonna finish her off quickly, I wanna make sure she remembers every second of that day."
The 32-year-old mixed martial artist, known for her moniker, "Pitbull," earned the ire of "Rowdy" over a comment she made in an interview in May about the defending champion's past.
"She doesn't have a good head, she needs to get help. There are a lot of people around her, she's winning, but when she realizes that's not everything, I don't know what might happen. I hope she doesn't commit suicide," Correia told Combate.
Rousey took the jab personally as her father took his own life when she was younger. She took to social networking site Twitter to comment on the fighter's remarks.
"@bethecorreia suicide is no joke or selling point. My father will be with me the day I hand you the comeuppance you deserve," posted Rousey.
The contender immediately issued an apology and explained that she did not know about the suicide of Rousey's father. However, "Rowdy" did not think it was sincere at all and told Helwani she does "not buy" the apology.
"I don't know if I'm more offended by what she said or her phony apology to save face for herself, which wasn't even an apology. She just complimented herself, called herself humble and asked for forgiveness, I mean that's not even an apology," said the fighter.
A week ago, the UFC champion posted an image on her Instagram page that compares her record with Correia's. She accompanied the photo with a caption vowing vengeance for the Brazilian's comments.
"@BetheCorreia, your disrespect to my father, family and friends is not forgotten. I am your comeuppance. And this will not be over quickly. I will make sure you feel every moment of the lesson I'm going to teach you. #UFC190 #Aug1st #andSTILL," wrote Rousey.
The two fighters headline UFC 190, which will be held on August 1 in Brazil.
