MTV ‘Scream’ Season 1 Episode 2 Spoilers: A Reporter Comes to Town Following Murder [Watch]
Next Tuesday on MTV, the second episode of the freshman series "Scream," which is based off the 1996 film by Wes Craven, will feature elements that were inherent to the original, but different for the show. The episode is title "Hello, Emma" and will air on July 7 at 9 p.m. EDT, according to TV Guide.
The death of Nina Patterson, who was played by Bella Thorne, has raised a few questions in the town of Lakewood. The town itself has a dreaded history following the murderous rampage of a killer 20 years ago that has ties to the current murder.
The aftermath of the situation leads Emma to confess to Audrey that she was with Nina the night she filmed Audrey making out with a girl in a parked car and posted it to social media. The video went viral in their town and caused Audrey a lot of grief.
This leads to a rift between Emma and Audrey, who in the final moments of the previous episode had a picture of Brandon James on her wall. James was the killer from 20 years ago that may still be on the loose.
Following the events of Nina's murder, though, a podcasting reporter will arrive in town to report on events -- past and present. This may also lead to a rising action that could correspond with the original film.
According to International Business Times, James also wore a mask to cover up a health condition called proteus syndrome, which caused his bones to become overgrown and gave him a hideous face.
The links between the past and present murders are alarming and the reporter comes to town to make the connection.
The episode's title plays off the iconic dialogue from the original film, which starred Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott. In the killer's first call to her before the initial attack, he said "Hello, Sydney." Episode 3 is also titled "Wanna Play a Game," according to Spoilers Guide. This is another line used in the original movie.
