WWE News & Update: WWE Sues Retired Wrestlers & Hall Of Famers To Block 'Concussion' Lawsuit
World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. has recently made a move to block all lawsuits filed against the company by a number of retired wrestlers.
According to the Associated Press, WWE, founded by Vince McMahon, is suing some former wrestlers who filed a lawsuit against the wrestling entertainment firm claiming that they "suffered long-term health problems from concussions they received in the ring."
The company that brought Wrestlemania and SummerSlam to the public argued that the charges filed by the wrestlers were fake and must not be accepted considering it is under a "three-year statute of limitations" in the state of Connecticut.
WWE has also included in the lawsuit its request to have all litigations of such kind be transferred to Connecticut.
Aside from that, WWE also claimed that Atty. Konstantine Kyros placed ads on Google targeting retired wrestlers in the hopes of pursuing possible litigation cases against WWE.
"It is unfortunate that some former performers have been improperly recruited under the guise of a big 'pay day,' and we feel badly that these individuals are being misled and exploited," said the company in a statement.
Before WWE sued the wrestlers, the company received a "notice of representation" from Kyros, reported Wrestling Inc.
The lawyer claimed that he is handling Robert Windham, more famously known as Blackjack Mulligan, Tom Bellington, James Ware, Oreal Perras and other wrestlers in their suit against the company for concussions and long-term head trauma following their time with the firm.
Meanwhile, WWE attorney Jerry McDevitt alleged that Kyros has been trying to persuade the wrestlers by saying that he can bring a class-act lawsuit against the company similar to what happened with NFL and some of its players.
"Before this guy started trolling around looking for people to sue, we didn't have one person, none, claiming they had any kind of traumatic brain injuries, or dementia or ALS or any of the kind of stuff you seek associated with the NFL," said McDevitt.
In Kyros' defense, he stated that he was not shopping for clients and that some of the wrestlers have retained his services. He said that the wrestlers are all suffering from brain injury because of the physical contact from the sport.
He also claimed that the lawsuit filed by the WWE in response to their charges is out to make sure that none of the wrestlers who are suffering get their "day in court" and be given the support they need.
