Nicole Richie Marie Claire Mexico Cover: Socialite Reveals True Relationship with Paris Hilton
From a bad girl to a superwoman.
Nicole Richie is on the cover of Marie Claire Mexico's February issue, which is due out on Monday, and the socialite reveals her true relationship with former best friend Paris Hilton, her experience during The Simple Life, as well as the motherhood to two children.
The Hollywood duo famously fell out while filming their reality television series, The Simple Life. Now, Richie opens up about how she feels about Hilton.
"Paris has been part of my life since I was two years old," she tells the publication. "There's a strong friendship between our families and we'll always know each other." The editor-in-chief, Ariadne Grant, also adds that Richie "seemed very mature in all the aspects of her life, even saying that she and Paris Hilton would remain forever in each other's lives."
Nicole Richie admits that her experience during The Simple Life with the hotel heiress Paris Hilton certainly shaped who she is now.
"I had already traveled a lot around my country and abroad, but I had never experienced America quite like when we were doing the show," she says. "Before that, my whole world was between Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Alabama and Atlanta, where my parents come from, but being in the central states was something completely new to us."
"Traveling is essential because it helps you grow," she continues. "Learning about different cultures and beliefs is a wonderful process."
Richie says she and her ex-BFF did not have much of a private life during the reality show, because they were being filmed constantly.
"We were filmed 24/7: in the bathroom, in the car, in the living room," she recalls. "That was the most interesting part about 'The Simple Life,' because it was intended to show what we were experiencing in the most truthful way. This changed later on, but at the beginning it was reality at its finest."
In addition, married to punk rock star Joel Maddon of Good Charlotte, the mother of two children says how her six-year-old daughter Harlow and four-year-old son Sparrow have become her number one priority in life.
"Motherhood makes you way more conscious of how you distribute your spare time," she says. "Kids are so precious that your priorities change completely."
Nicole Richie adds that balancing her family life and career can be quite hard. "I think that's a global struggle and we, all women, are constantly trying to find a solution," she says. "I'm like any other working mother trying to make things work and dealing with this situation one day at a time. I have an amazing family and they've all been very supportive, my parents live only 10 minutes away and my husband and his twin brother help me when I need it."
