Hillary Clinton Emails: Clinton's 'Secret Santa' is Her Chappaqua Hairdresser
The "Santa" mentioned in the latest batch of newly released Hillary Clinton emails refers to Santa Nikkels, the former secretary of state's hairdresser from Chappaqua, New York.
According to CNN reported, reporters going through thousands of messages unveiled by the U.S. Department of State encountered several vague commitments of the then-top diplomat's "seeing Santa," and the Internet and television pundits soon were abuzz with speculations about what powerful figure might hide behind the colorful nickname.
"I'm seeing Santa at 8:30 so won't take off until closer to 9:30," Clinton emailed aide her aide, Huma Abedin, in one email. "Is that ok?" the secretary wondered. Two months later, she told Abedin that "I need to see Santa around 7:45 after seeing Lisa."
A People magazine profile suggests Clinton's "secret" meetings with Santa were less about international diplomacy and presidential politics and more about curls and colors, ABC News noted.
The hairdresser herself, though, would not confirm her identity, according to CNN. "I want to keep myself in a very conservative position, and I don't give information about clients," she told the news channel. "I don't like to talk about who comes in here and who doesn't."
According to People magazine, Nikkels' customers also include Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton -- a fact that may come as relief to the nation's frequent fliers, the Daily Mail quipped. During his time in the White House, Bill Clinton had famously held up travelers at Los Angeles International Airport by idling Air Force One while a celebrity stylist cut his hair onboard.
A third Democrat, John Edwards, infamously got in trouble over his vanity when his campaign finance reports revealed haircuts costing $400 and $1,250, the British paper recalled. Nikkels, for her part, would not reveal how much she charged the Clintons.
