More Details Unearthed About Nene Leakes Departure from ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’
Nene Leakes recently spoke to TMZ while leaving LAX about her recent decision to part ways with "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," the show that first catapulted her to fame.
When a TMZ reporter approached Leakes to discuss whether she would consider having a smaller role on the show next season, Leakes said that she is not sure, but she has "nothing but love" for the Bravo network and Atlanta.
Leakes then continued to say that she would "definitely" not be returning to the show for its upcoming eighth season; however, she might consider rejoining the cast later down the line or "pop up" every now and then for a few episodes.
TMZ reports that Leakes' decision to quit the show had nothing to do with money. Instead, she has signed on to appear in a new ABC game show "To Tell the Truth."
Reality Tea reports that Leakes has already started filming the show and took to Instagram to share moments from the set with her followers.
But despite Leakes' statement to TMZ about loving Bravo and Atlanta, RadarOnline reports that Bravo is no longer fond of the former "Glee" star.
A source from RadarOnline claimed that Leakes was upsetting Bravo producers and was "alienating everyone on the show and refused to do so much. Sometimes wouldn't do publicity for the show and even when she did film she would sometimes just storm off."
Though it is unclear who will replace Leakes on the next season of "RHOA," her fellow cast mate and former best friend Cynthia Bailey recently told Essence that she supports Leakes' decision to exit the show.
"I think that there comes a time in your life where you have to do what's best for you," Bailey said at the Essence Festival. "She will always be the original Atlanta housewife, she started this platform. If there was no Nene there would be no Cynthia, there would be no Kenya, there'd be no anyone on this show."
She added, "I applaud her for stepping out and doing something else."
And while she applauds Leakes' decision to branch off into other ventures, Bailey assured Essence that she would "absolutely" be returning to "RHOA" next season.
"They need some class on the show," she quipped.
