The Cleveland Cavaliers are not done strengthening their roster this offseason as reports revealed they are interested in acquiring Joe Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Cavaliers are looking to get Johnson from the Nets by using the team-friendly contract of Brendan Haywood.

Haywood is scheduled to earn $10.5 million next season, but his contract is nonguaranteed, which means a team will not need to pay him any amount if he is waived before Aug. 1. The unique stipulation in Haywood's contract has been gaining interest over the past several weeks.

Acquiring Johnson will give the Cavaliers additional scoring threat from the perimeter next season, while the Nets will get huge cap relief and lower luxury tax payment.

However, Johnson is scheduled to earn $24.8 million in the final year of his contract next season, which means the Cavaliers and Nets cannot do a one-on-one trade because salaries do not match.

According to Windhorst, one possibility is throwing Anderson Varejao into the mix. Varejao, who missed the majority of the 2014-15 NBA season after sustaining a ruptured Achilles tendon, will earn $9.6 million next season. The Brazilian center is expected to recover in time for training camp.

Windhorst added that it could also be the reason why the Cavaliers are looking at the possibility of signing free-agent forward David West. The former Indiana Pacers forward opted out of the final year of his contract in order to sign with a title contender. Recent reports revealed the Cavaliers and Spurs are frontrunners in race for West.

Earlier in the offseason, ESPN reported that the Nets talked to the Memphis Grizzlies about a potential trade for Johnson, but the proposed deal did not come to fruition. But despite failing to strike a trade for Johnson, the Nets are still confident that they will eventually find a team willing to take Johnson and his huge contract.

The Charlotte Hornets were linked to a move for Johnson before the nabbed Nicolas Batum in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers. Johnson was also on the Detroit Pistons' radar before they traded for former Milwaukee Bucks forward Ersan Ilyasova.

Johnson, who is a seven-time NBA All-Star, averaged 14.4 points in 80 regular-season games with the Nets last season. It was his lowest scoring average since posting 9.8 points during the 2002-03 NBA season -- his third season in the league -- with the Phoenix Suns.
