‘Minecraft’ for Windows 10 Release Date, Story Mode Trailer Revealed
“Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition,” as part of this year’s MineCon event, has already been scheduled to launch alongside the much-awaited OS upgrade itself, the Windows 10, on July 29. Its release, however, does not necessarily mean that the standard PC version of the game will be replaced.
Microsoft did, however, reveal that “Minecraft” PC gamers have the option to upgrade -- all for free -- for a limited time frame, according to IGN. New players can purchase the game at a discounted price of $10 for a limited time as well.
Considering that Minecraft -- a working collaboration of Telltale Games and Mojang -- has sold around 20 million PC versions since it was launched, Microsoft is pretty hopeful that making the upgrade to the “Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition” absolutely free will make the deal even sweeter.
It was Daniel Kaplan, a known business developer, who confirmed the news. “20 million copies of ‘Minecraft’ PC sold,” he wrote on Twitter. “This is crazy. Thanks everyone for supporting us and thanks for sticking with us for so long!”
Microsoft only opted to acquire the “Minecraft” gaming franchise when it noticed that the craze has shown no signs of dying down. Having realized the game’s extremely lucrative potential last year, Microsoft was quick to purchase the IP, as well as the game’s developer, Mojang, for $2.5 billion.
“‘Minecraft’ adds diversity to our game portfolio and helps us reach new gamers across multiple platforms,” Microsoft's statement reads. “Gaming is the top activity across devices and we see great potential to continue to grow the ‘Minecraft’ community and nurture the franchise.”
Since the acquisition, Microsoft has never ceased from supporting Mojang in launching “Minecraft” across different platforms, including the company’s toughest rival on PlayStation.
During the MineCon event, Mojang has finally unveiled the much awaited trailer of “Minecraft: Story Mode” – an episodic “Minecraft” game version that was created by Telltale Games. This particular version depicts a very active and densely-populated “Minecraft” world, which also gives gamers the option to interact with other players in a choose-your-own-adventure kind of narrative.
In the “Minecraft: Story Mode,” the gamer will have to play the role of Jesse, who leads a posse, as detailed by Game Rant. Jesse and his friends are loyal followers of the Order of the Stone, which is a group of four other “Minecraft” players who became famous after they killed an elder dragon. Jesse and his group then discover something evil that is about to be unleashed. That said, they set forth to find the Order of the Stone to save the world.
