GoPro Hero4 Session Specs: Much Smaller GoPro is Waterproof, Even More Portable
A new cube-shaped GoPro camera is the latest product from the point-of-view camera company. The GoPro Hero4 Session ditches the housing found on other GoPro cameras, creating an extremely portable and rugged device, CNET reports.
This is the smallest GoPro yet, and like other GoPro cameras, it is designed for action. The difference between the Hero4 Session and other GoPro cameras is the shape and weight. The Hero4 Session weighs just 74 grams, 40 percent lighter than the Hero4 Silver and Black. It is also shaped like a cube rather than a rectangle, making it easy to rotate.
The Hero4 Session does not need a protective housing to go underwater. Other GoPro cameras need the extra housing unit to keep them protected when submerged in water, which adds an extra bulk to the camera. The Hero4 Session is capable of going up to 10 meters underwater.
The Hero4 Session is priced at $400, which is the same price as the Hero4 Silver. The Hero4 Silver does offer more features like a touchscreen, but the Hero 4 Session's main advantage is its compact and rugged design.
The Hero4 Session wants users to be able to start shooting their footage without thinking. It is designed to be a "grab-and-go" camera capable of recording footage without any planning.
Mounting the Hero4 Session is easy thanks to the included frames. These frames make it simple to attach the camera to a helmet or wherever else it needs to be mounted.
Because of its decreased size, the Hero4 Session loses some features. It will not have a Micro-HDMI output and the battery is not removable. Users will be able to insert a microSD card to make the device have up to 64 GB of storage.
The Hero4 Session needs to be connected to a smartphone or remote to change its settings. This can be frustrating for some users.
Users will appreciate the compact size of this GoPro, which is its main advantage. The shooting quality may not match that of other GoPro cameras, but the GoPro Hero4 Session allows for more versatility and to do things that other cameras cannot do.
There are other small square cameras similar to the Hero4 Session, including a model from Poloroid, but GoPro has tried for years to create one, according to Engadget.
