A few things stand out. The first and foremost is the amount of Kansas City Royals players who made the All-Star game as starters. Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez will all be representing the defending NL champions in the midsummer classic.
Another big theme here is injuries and replacements. Miguel Cabrera is having another fine season this year with a .350 batting average and a .578 slugging percentage. Unfortunately, Cabrera will miss this game because of a leg injury. Andrew Romine and Josh Wilson would each make good replacements.
Giancarlo Stanton, who lead the league in home runs, will also miss the upcoming MLB All-Star game. The leading candidate to replace him is Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Matt Holiday is currently battling a quad injury, but he does plan on representing the St. Louis Cardinals in the All-Star game next week.
Josh Donaldson had the most votes this year with over 14 million. The leading vote getter in the NL was Bryce Harper.
Another glaringly obvious trend is the amount of Latin American players who received starting votes. Baseball has and will always be one of the most popular sports amount Latino Sports fans, and it shows here. The Dominican Republic and Venezuela are well represented.
