If you're wondering if you should pick up a new LG G4 or the iPhone 6, released last September, here's some food for thought. The LG G4 has outperformed the iPHone 6 in Consumer Reports' most recent ranking. The less-hyped Korean phablet also beat the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the same ranking.

The news comes from Business Korea via PhoneArena, where Consumer Reports gave the LG G4 a grade of 78 out of 100 after the consumer magazine's evaluation in May, just after the LG G4's April launch.

In the same rankings, the Apple iPhone 6 ranked fifth, sharing that place with the recently-launched and very visible Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. In fact, the 2014 Samsung Galaxy S5 beat this year's updated flagship smartphone from Samsung.

Here's how the LG G4 stacks up against the iPhone 6, and why it outperformed Apple's latest and greatest (so far).

Display:

The iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch display with 750 x 1334p resolution. That may be the best Apple has ever done with its iPhone model, but the LG G4 has a massive 5.5-inch screen with 1440 x 2560p resolution. Even with more real estate to cover, the LG G4 packs about 538 pixels per inch, compared to the iPhones 326 ppi pixel density.

Power:

The fastest iPhone yet, the iPhoen 6 comes with a dual-core 1.4 GHz 64-bit CPU with quad-core graphics and a gig of RAM.

The LG G4, meanwhile, uses the Snapdragon 808 (seemingly because the latest flagship 810 overheats too much), which runs one quad-core CPU at 1.44GHz and a dual-core at 1.82 GHz, and Adreno 418 graphics with 3GB of RAM.

Camera:

Apple's always been known for putting great cameras on its iPhones. The iPhone 6 is no exception with an 8 megapixel shooter with phase detection autofocus, and dual-LED (two-tone) flash for great pictures inside and out. It can also shoot 1080p video at a full 60 frames per second and 720p at a slo-mo enabling 240fps.

But the LG G4 has been lauded for its strong camera, which comes with 16-megapixels, laser autofocus and optical image stabilization. It shoots the same full HD 1080p video with 60 frames per second, but also can shoot 2160p at 30fps, and comes with lots of great extras like optical stabilization for video, HDR recording, and stereo sound recording from its mic.

Battery:

Apple's battery is non-removable and light, at 1810 mAh, which is great for pockets but bad for all-day performance. The LG G4's hulking 3000 mAh battery provides up to 100 hours more standby, and will keep going through the evening, hours after the iPhone 6 will be hurting for more juice.

Price, Availability, and Misc.

Add to that the fact that the iPhone 6 comes with Bluetooth 4.0 compared to the LG G4's Bluetooth LE (low energy) 4.1, the iPhone 6's NFC only for Apple Pay compared to the LG G4's open NFC, and the LG G4's IR blaster and Stereo FM radio (wow, that's an oldie, but goodie), and you can see why consumers are finding the LG G4 to simply be more capable than the iPhone 6.

However, if you're going for looks or the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone 6 has that on lockdown. Both handsets are widely available on all major carriers and cost about $200 with a contract renewal.
