iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus Rumors: Home Button Could Disappear, More Leaked Photos Surface
When Apple upgrades to a "S" device, it typically makes subtle changes.
The next iPhone, likely called the iPhone 6S, could make some significant changes, including getting rid of the home button, according to TechRadar.
The iPhone 6S might get rid of the home button since new technology would allow the fingerprint sensor to be built right into the screen.
Images obtained by Engadget Japan show plans for the next iPhone. The only change detailed in these schematic images is the increase in thickness to 7.1 mm (from 6.9 mm in the iPhone 6). The images still show that the home button will be included, according to MacRumors.
By getting thicker, the new iPhone could be using a thicker material, perhaps the strong 7000 series aluminum that the Apple Watch uses.
The increased thickness could also be caused by the use of the Force Touch technology. Force Touch is used by Apple to distinguish between light taps and longer presses on the display. Depending on the amount of pressure put onto the display, the device will perform different functions.
Although the iPhone 6S is expected to look almost exactly the same as the iPhone 6, significant internal improvements are expected.
For starters, a much improved rear and front-facing camera is expected on the device. The rear-facing camera is expected to increase from 8 megapixels (MP) all the way up to 12 MP. The front-facing camera will add a flash, support 1080p video and will be 5 MP.
The rear-facing camera on the iPhone 6S is expected to deliver high-quality photos that are near DSLR-quality.
LTE download speeds could be doubled thanks to a new Qualcomm made LTE chip. This will also contribute to better battery life. Speeds of LTE downloads could increase to 300 Mbps from 150 Mbps.
The newest processor from Apple, likely called the A9, is expected to be included in the iPhone 6S. This processor will be more efficient and more powerful than the A8 found in the iPhone 6.
The amount of RAM in the iPhone is expected to be doubled from 1 GB to 2 GB for the first time on an iPhone. This will give the iPhone 6S more power and multitasking capabilities.
The release date for the iPhone 6S has not been announced, but it is likely expected sometime in September, when iPhones are normally released.
