Ride Along Release and Box Office News: Kevin Hart Flick Takes Top Spot in Box Office Again for Second Week
The question isn't if Ride Along did well in the box office; the question many are asking is whether Kevin Hart was the reason for the film's success, or was it Ice Cube? The comedy Ride Along has earned the number one spot, not only on the first week of its movie theater release but on its second week as well.
The film that received mostly negative reviews according to website Rottentomatoes has surpassed any bad mouthing by collecting $41.2 million on its opening week. Ride Along has now beat the odds once again by gaining another $21.2 million in ticket sales on this second week of its release. Do not doubt the power of Kevin Hart... ever.
The film follows Kevin Hart's character, who has just been accepted into the police academy, on a day of "cop buddying." While he tries to prove to his soon-to-be brother-in-law and cop, Ice Cube, that he is worthy of the position and his sister, the day takes a turn for danger. When things seem to go terribly for Hart, he realizes that he is actually helping Cube solve the mystery of a ghost-like criminal through his knowledge of an Xbox war game.
Since its Jan. 17 release, the film has earned a total amount of just over $75 million in ticket sales. The comedy sits nicely at its number spot, making all of us wonder if they will make it to the third week. Universal Pictures, the studio behind Ride Along, is having a great month as their other film Lone Survivor, starring Mark Wahlberg, holds the number two spot in the box office. Universal has broken the record in having the top two spots for two consecutive weeks in almost two decades.
Ride Along is absolutely hilarious and it also has some pretty exciting action scenes. Do not miss this film, it has a good plot, fun cast and it will make you laugh like you haven't in a while. Who's watching it this week?
