Windows 10 News: PC Makers Could See Operating System This Week, July 29 Release On Schedule
Microsoft is on schedule for its July 29 public release of Windows 10.
It is currently putting the finishing touches on the operating system and will release a version to PC makers by July 10, CNet reports.
The version of Windows 10, called "release to manufacturing," is set to be sent out to PC makers so that they can include it in their computers, The Verge reports.
Windows 10 is the next major software release from Microsoft and it wants to be much better than Windows 8, which first was released three years ago. Windows is used by most computers worldwide, up to 90 percent, according to NetMarketShare.
Windows 8 has been quite unpopular since its release and it only has 13 percent market share worldwide. Windows 7, by comparison has almost 61 percent.
Windows 8 had several issues, from its design to users learning how to use it. Windows 8 was introduced when users were starting to get used to smartphones and tablets, which normally run the Android or iOS operating systems.
Windows 10 wants to be a more simple operating system. The Start button has returned and the look and feel of the operating systems plans to be more traditional. Microsoft wants Windows 10 to be usable on multiple devices, while retaining all its features on each device.
The new Windows 10 will also have a brand new browser called Edge, designed to get users to jump over from the ancient Internet Explorer. The operating system will also get an updated version of Cortana, the voice assistant.
Windows 10 will be offered as a free upgrade to anyone running Windows 7 or Windows 8. Even users with pirated copies of Windows 7 or Windows 8 will be able to get the free upgrade.
Not all users will receive the upgrade on July 29 as Microsoft plans to roll out Windows 10 "in waves" to ensure that the network does not become overloaded with people trying to download the operating system.
Microsoft plans to listen to feedback from the first users of Windows 10 to make improvements on the operating system in its early stages.
The new computers that are getting the release to manufacturing version of Windows 10 will have the operating system pre-installed and will not need to do any upgrades.
