Just when boxing fans thought that the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto fight couldn't be more exciting, World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman brought in another interesting news about the much-awaited match.

Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes that there could be a special belt at stake waiting for the ultimate winner of the showdown between the WBC middleweight champion, Cotto, and former super welterweight champion, Alvarez, who was only defeated by the unbeaten Floyd "The Money" Mayweather Jr.

"The fight will be signed and carried out by the title of the World Boxing Council. We'll wait for the promoter's request. It would be an excellent [idea to award a special belt] because the fight is very large," Sulaiman said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.  

The announcement was released after Sulaiman said that whoever wins between the seasoned Puerto Rican fighter and the Mexican fast-rising boxing superstar must face Gennady "GGG" Golovkin next, per WBC rules.

"If that doesn't happen then Golovkin moves from interim to undisputed champion," Sulaiman told World Boxing News. 

The current World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, "GGG," is also the WBC mandatory challenger for the middleweight title. Thus, he is set to face the victor of the Cotto-Canelo battle. With the special belt in store, which may or may not be captured by Triple G, the bout is deemed more thrilling. Even the Kazakh boxer, who never tasted defeat and vanquished 30 of his 33 opponents via knockouts, must be awaiting the outcome of the November fight.

Even without the special belt on the line for the bout this fall, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya predicted that on pay-per-view, the upcoming Puerto Rico vs. Mexico match could surpass his previous fight with Felix "Tito" Trinidad in 1999.  

"It's going to be bigger. It will be bigger because of what Miguel Cotto has accomplished, being the first fight from Puerto Rico to be a champion in four divisions, and especially by how he looked in his last fight. He was strong, he was quick... Canelo looked strong, very quick, a lot of pressure against Kirkland... I think the anticipation of this fight is bigger than me and Trinidad fight... Many people around the world will be waiting for this big match," Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN Deportes, as quoted by Boxing Scene in another report. 

The huge showdown may be happening on Nov. 7, 14 or 21 in Las Vegas, the "Mecca of boxing," with the venue to be set either at the MGM Grand or the Thomas & Mack Center, noted the site, citing De La Hoya.
