Galaxy Note, S6 Rumors: Samsung Will Update Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge In Lieu of Stiff Competition
Samsung will reportedly update both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones.
Both smartphones will come with a big 5.7-inch screen and other new features, CNet reports.
Citing information from SamMobile, CNet reports that the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be introduced at the IFA 2015 conference in Berlin this September.
SamMobile tracks Samsung phones and says that the Galaxy Note 5 will feature a 5.7-inch screen and utilize the S Pen stylus. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will also have a 5.7-inch screen, an increase from the current Galaxy S6 5.1-inch screens.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices launched back in April and were in high demand. However, on Monday, Samsung announced that its operating profit for the second quarter is expected to fall for the seventh straight time.
Samsung has been challenged by Apple and China-based companies Xiaomi and Huawei. These last two have attracted customers in China away from Samsung, a country that Samsung considers as crucial.
Samsung has realized that it is losing some steam against these competitors and plans to reduce the number of phones they offer in 2015. It plans to spend more time and money on the phones that have been selling well.
The updates to the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus could help Samsung regain some customers.
The Galaxy Note 5 is expected to use a brand new Samsung-made processor called the Exynos 7422. This processor combines the central processing unit (CPU) and graphical processing unit (GPU), the onboard memory, storage and cellular connectivity and wireless networks into one chip.
The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus would use Qualcomm's 808 processor. It will still feature the curved sides for the screen. The upcoming smartphone will have 32 GB of internal storage and a 16-megapixel (MP) camera.
Samsung has not officially confirmed the release of these two phones.
