New York Giants Roster Update: Jason Pierre-Paul Loses Right Index Finger After Fireworks Accident
New York Giants' defensive end Jason "JPP" Pierre-Paul had to make a difficult decision, following his 4th of July fireworks accident that injured both of his hands.
A recent update revealed that the NFL player consented to a medical procedure that led to the amputation of his right index finger.

Prior to the 4th of July celebration, Pierre-Paul posted a video of himself in front of a vehicle, which his neighbors said was a U-Haul van full of fireworks.
JPP, a first round pick by the Giants five years ago, was admitted in a medical facility right after being injured while he tried to light some fireworks on Saturday, NFL.com earlier reported, citing two sources knowledgeable of the unfortunate incident.
But despite the current situation the 26-year-old football player is in, Schefter noted in another Twitter post that JPP is expected to be out on the field "sooner than people think."
Schefter's announcement was corroborated by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com in a tweet. The NFL insider also stated via his post that the Florida-born and based athlete "could be back" in less than two months from now.
ESPN earlier reported that representatives from the team went to Florida to check on updates on JPP, but they were not able to see him.
It is expected for the Giants to be concerned of the defensive player, whom they hit with a $14.8 million tag. The Giants DE tallied 12.5 sacks last season, proving that he is an important figure in the New York football team last year. It was also reported that Pierre-Paul has not signed the franchise-tag tender and is not yet in contract with the team.
JPP's current situation might affect his play on the field. As a defensive end in the league, his hands are very important in his role of stopping offensive linemen from opposing teams, commented NFL.com.
New Jersey surgeon Kevin Roenbeck told the New York Post that based on JPP's chart, "There's no guarantee he can be the same defensive end he was. It changes your hand forever and narrows the palm."
