Reese Witherspoon, Sophia Vergara Feud Rumors: 'Hot Pursuit' Actresses Blame Each Other for Movie Flop
Why can’t the beautiful people just get along?
According to the gossip site RadarOnline, Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara, who can currently be seen in the sexy buddy comedy “Hot Pursuit,” can’t stand each other.
Since their action comedy apparently barely made back its $35 million production budget, Vergara and Witherspoon have turned the film's failure into a relationship ending blame game. According to an insider, “Reese blames Sofia’s accent and ‘irritating laugh,’ while Sofia blames Reese for not being sexy or funny enough.”
Normally in a situation like this both angry parties could just agree to never again have anything to do with one another, but things have been complicated by the business of Hollywood, as both actresses are represented by Witherspoon’s husband, agent Jim Toth.
“Jim is desperately trying to broker peace between them, but then they start accusing him of playing favorites! He can’t win,” says the insider.
"Hot Pursuit" has been widely panned by critics as well as shunned by audience.
In his review of the film for the Hollywood Reporter, critic Todd McCarthy snarkily asks, “Isn’t this the sort of nitwit comedy Reese Witherspoon wasn’t going to make anymore after becoming a producer on the likes of 'Wild' and 'Gone Girl?'"
If Witherspoon has some career alternatives Vergara might not, and was perhaps really hoping to branch off into films.
The source says that, “Sofia has a love/hate relationship with 'Modern Family,'” adding that, “Its shooting schedule is long and difficult, but if she had a real movie career, she could leave… Sofia was hoping to have some kind of leverage for next season’s contract negotiations, but because 'Hot Pursuit' was such a turkey, she needs the show more than ever.”
