The head coach and six players for the Cuban National Soccer Team did not show up last night for its opening Gold Cup match against Mexico in Chicago. According to reports, the striker of the team is believed to have defected.

MLS Soccer reports that head coach and six players from the team did not arrive in time for its match against Mexico because they got stuck in Antigua due to "logistical problems."

The MLS Multiplex reports that Cuban star striker Keiler Garcia has defected from the team. The 25-year-old played for FC Camaguey and scored five goals for Cuba. Rumor has it the reason behind the "logistical" issues is visa-related, specifically members not being granted them.

This will leave Cuba with only 16 players on the roster for the Gold Cup. It will be a tough road for Cuba as they faced Mexico last night. After that match, they face Trinidad and Tobago on July 12, and then play their final group game against Guatemala.
