Otsuka Akio, the voice actor for Solid Snake in the "Metal Gear Solid" series, posted a controversial tweet about the fate of Kojima Productions.

In the tweet, translated by Gematsu, Akio wrote, "Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete." At the moment, there has been no word from Konami regarding the status of the development studio.

Kojima Productions, founded by video-game legend Hideo Kojima, is a subsidiary of Konami and are responsible for creating the games from the Metal Gear series. This statement comes after an influx of recent rumors regarding the collapse of Kojima Productions.

The developers are currently working on "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," which would likely be the final game in the "Metal Gear Solid" series to be developed by Kojima under Konami.

A source that spoke to Gamespot in March claimed that Kojima is expected to leave Konami soon after completing the "The Phantom Pain." Their contract will supposedly end in December of this year.

The insider also claimed that the employees from Kojima Productions were working on the fifth "Metal Gear Solid" game in the main series as contractors, with a contract that is to expire upon completion of the game.

At around the same time, Konami removed the Kojima Productions logo from the publicity materials and official art for "Metal Gear Solid" and from Konami - adding to suspicions that the studio has disbanded. Kojima had also left the executive management.

In April 2015, Konami also cancelled "Silent Hills," which was to be the next entry in the "Silent Hill" series and co-directed by Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. This came after a playable teaser "P.T." had already been released.

However, the source also told Gamespot that "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

In Akio's tweet, he also stated that "I'm not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn't help it. I just wanted to say 'Kept you waiting, huh?' (Laughs.) But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal!"

"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It will succed the short titlte "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes."

"The Phantom Pain" is slated to come out on September 1, 2015 for consoles, and September 15, 2015 for PC.
