Nokia Lumia Black Update: Windows Phone 8 Update in Latin America: What You Need to Know Before the WP8 Download [Videos]
Microsoft has slowly rolled out its latest update for Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphone owners across Latin America.
According to Nokia, the update known as Lumia Black has been confirmed for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The Lumia Black's rollout, however, will vary on the numerous mobile carriers across the aforementioned Latin American countries.
In regards to features, the Lumia Black sports various improvements for the numerous Lumia smartphones it'll impact.
The Glance Screen is a notable feature with Lumia Black. With the enhanced Glance Screen, new texts, instant messages, unread emails, and notifications for missed calls can be prompted. The Glance Screen includes a few colors with its new night mode feature.
Once the Lumia Black update is installed, smartphone owners can download the free Nokia Storyteller app. The app establishes a timeline of the smartphone owner's photos on top of the maps app.
Continuing with photography, Nokia Refocus is another app available with the Lumia Black update but only for smartphones with 1GB of RAM. For Lumia 1020 smartphone owners, the Lumia Black update improves the image quality of the 41-megapixel-sensor device. One aspect of the Lumia 1020's improvement is the new oversampling algorithm, which provides images with a natural look and sharp.
"Nokia Lumia Black updates the imaging experiences on your Lumia and makes using the Windows Phone even more fluid," said Samuli Hänninen, vice president of software program management for Nokia's Smart Devices business, via Nokia Conversations.
Nokia Beamer is next, and it allows the Lumia device to connect wirelessly to the nearest internet-connected computer or television. Nokia Beamer can also connect to another Lumia smartphone.
App Folder, which gives the Lumia smartphone owner the option to organize and personalize their Start screen.
Across Latin America, the Lumia Black update will be labeled one of three statuses: Available, "Waiting for approval," and "Coming soon."
According to Nokia, "Waiting for approval" has been defined as "undergoing final testing with Nokia, country or operator to achieve approval."
Meanwhile, "Coming soon," per Nokia," means the update has been "approved, in final pre-release checks."
For most of the Lumia Black update rollout across the aforementioned Latin American countries, the update is "Waiting for approval" except for select Lumia 1020 then Lumia 925 devices.
The update is confirmed for the following Windows Phone 8 smartphones: Lumia 520, Lumia 620, Lumia 625, Lumia 720, Lumia 820, Lumia 920, Lumia 925, and Lumia 1020. Select Latin American countries, however, are not selling all of the Lumia smartphones such as El Salvador's lack of the Lumia 720, Puerto Rico with the Lumia 925, and Venezuela's absence of Lumia 520 and Lumia 1020, to name a few.
