After missing the 2015 NBA Playoffs, the Miami Heat has been making big moves this offseason. The South Florida team has re-signed Heat superstar Dwyane Wade and has renewed Slovenian point guard Goran Dragic.

Despite having two elite guards in the roster, the team is aware that having a solid bench is key to having an extended campaign toward the league's postseason. The question still stands: Will the Heat bring back Mario Chalmers?

Mario Chalmers may have a hard time making it back to training camp, Miami Herald's Barry Jackson opined. With several guards vying for the spot, Chalmers seems like the logical player to drop.

Along with Chalmers, NCAA champ Shabazz Napier, Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson are also in the mix. Jackson said that the team might also bring in a player who is not even on the roster as of this time.

Heat Nation drew up five scenarios Miami can take if it trades Chalmers. Brad Sullivan of Heat Nation said the Heat can go after one of five formidable point guards available for signing or trades: Jose Calderon of the New York Knicks, Raymond Felton of the Dallas Mavericks, Trevor Booker of the Utah Jazz, Brendan Haywood of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Sullivan said that with the Heat bringing back Wade and Dragic for big contracts, and maintaining big men Chris Bosh and Luol Deng for a total of $22 million, Heat owner Micky Arison has to push Heat GM Pat Riley to acquire as many low-budget players as it can and find a way to unload Chalmers who is set to make $4.3 million this year.

The first report that Miami is willing to release Chalmers for "virtually nothing" came from Grantland's Zach Lowe in his popular basketball column The Triangle.

Talking about Miami's offseason, Lowe said: "There might not be a more fascinating long-term situation in the league. In the meantime, bringing Wade back on a one-year, $20 million deal puts the Heat about $13 million over the projected tax line, and Miami wants no part of the harsh repeater penalties that would come with paying the tax for a fourth time in five seasons. Mario Chalmers and Chris Andersen are available for nothing, per several league sources, and the Heat have even put out Shabazz Napier feelers with an eye on carving out extra cap room next summer."

Miami has brought in a couple of big names in the offseason including Gerald Green from the Boston Celtics and Amar'e Stoudemire from the Dallas Mavericks, the Sun Sentinel reported.

The Heat also drafted Justise Winslow, a shooting guard-small forward combo from Duke University, widely regarded as a "steal" at 10th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft.
