Donald Trump Receives Threats From El Chapo Twitter Account
Donald Trump received threats from a Twitter account that may belong to escaped Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
According to Reuters, it is not clear if the tweets actually originated from El Chapo, but the FBI is looking into it.
Following Trump's racist remarks about Mexican immigrants, username @ElChap0Guzman tweeted, "Keep screwing (with us), and I'm going to make you eat your f*cking words you lousy white f*gg*t."
The account purports to be the official account of El Chapo
"The FBI is fully aware of the situation and is actively investigating this threat against Mr. Trump," an aide to Trump said on Monday.
Mexican government officials could not say if the tweet was from Guzman or from his children.
"I am told they are apocryphal," Mexican Deputy Interior Minister Roberto Campa said.
The tweet comes after El Chapo escaped from a Mexican maximum security Altiplano prison. His second prison escape. The drug lord and his associates managed to build a tunnel to crawl himself out, Dallas News reports.
A massive manhunt is underway for Guzman throughout Mexico and the United States. Officials are on the lookout for the drug lord who may cross the Mexican border to either the U.S. or Guatemala in the south.
El Chapo was once considered the most important fugitive in the world after Osama bin Laden. He is responsible for operating the powerful Sinaloa Cartel that has entry points into every region of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Meanwhile, GOP hopefuls are trying to figure out how to gain Latino votes, according to CNN.
"The problem with those comments is made worse by the fact that people will continue to confuse Trump with a Republican, which he is not, as opposed to thinking of him as an entertainer, which he is," said Ben Domenech, founder of The Federalist.
Officials are still on the lookout for El Chapo, while Trump is still trying to fix his reputation.
