'Avengers 2' Release Date, Cast & News Update: 'Age Of Ultron' Will Start Filming in Asia? Kim Soo-hyun Joins Film
What started out as rumors about the next location for the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" have now been confirmed. ComcBookMovie.com previously reported that the "Avengers 2" production team is heading to South Korea for an on-location shoot.
According to the article's translation on a Reddit post, "Hollywood's Marvel team rented 1000sq ft (?) of filing equipment. Using S.Korea's background as an "IT super power," the film will have Ultron be created by some tech company in Gangnam. Ultron wakes up and wreaks havoc in surrounding area."
Now, Twitch has confirmed that director Joss Whedon and his team are headed for Korea to shoot scenes for the upcoming movie. The filming will take place in Incheon City and the Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul.
The article also indicated that the director will be joined by Scarlet Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. in Korea. As of the moment, this means we'll be seeing the Black Widow and Iron Man in action in K-pop world.
Although reports of Ultron being created in a Korean company remain unconfirmed, a local actress has been recruited to join the film's cast as a villain.
After holding auditions in South Korea, actress Kim Soo-hyun was picked for the role out of 40 participants. The actress, who is fluent in English, is known for appearing in local dramas such as 2012's "Brain" and 2013's "7th Grade Civil Servant".
With this confirmation, Korea now joins Italy, US, and the UK as locations for the upcoming "Avengers" sequel.
But CinemaBlend speculates that even though the Korean actress will be playing a villain, it's not likely that she'll be getting substantial screen-time. Actor all, the movie features an all-star cast and it would seem illogical for Whedon to steal a couple of on-screen minutes from his big-name stars to make way for an actress who's not yet a worldwide household name.
