Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Next Fight: 'Son of Legend' Fires Back at Nacho Beristain, Vows To Silence Critics on July 18
Former world champion and "Son of Legend" Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vowed that he will silence his critics on July 18, when he faces fellow Mexican, Marcos Reyes, in Texas.
Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain, who serves as Reyes' trainer for the upcoming match, has already thrown stinging words towards Chavez Jr., in his interview with ESPN Deportes.
"I think the problem is the son of the legend and not the trainer. The problem is that maybe he doesn't like to train. He was training with his aunts and uncles who are boxing people that have all of the enthusiasm in the world. He's changing his trainer all the time and that is very damaging to the fighter," Nacho said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.
However, instead of being demoralized, it appears Chavez Jr. took the statements as a challenge as he is now more focused in his quest to defeat Reyes.
"I don't understand what Nacho Beristain's problem [is]... I'm the first Mexican middleweight champion in [boxing history]. I've only had two defeats. One was to the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter, [Sergio] Martinez, and I knocked him down and almost knocked him out, almost finished the fight. And the second was against a natural 175-pounder [Andrzej Fonfara], who was ranked No. 4 in the world, who was a very top-level fighter. On July 18th, I'll show Nacho Beristain and everybody else that I'm one of the greatest fighters," Chavez Jr. told the media, as reported in another article on the Boxing Scene.
He also gave credit to his team, headed by a former champion and trainer of champions, Robert Garcia.
But apart from facing Reyes or more opponents before 2015 ends, the younger Chavez has an ultimate goal for himself - to be a source of pride for his country.
"I worked hard to get here...I want to have two more fights this year before looking for a world title in a division where [a world title] has never been won by a Mexican," Chavez Jr. told the media.
On Saturday, the world will witness how prepared and dedicated the former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion will be as he faces Reyes in El Paso, Texas. This is also his chance to capture Gennady "GGG" Golovkin's attention whom he declared as one warrior he dreams to clash with on the ring, according to World Boxing News, especially after that TKO loss against Fonfara in April.
