One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson and fashion stylist Briana Jungwirth received some surprising but good news earlier this month: They are expecting a child.

"Louis is happy and very excited about becoming a dad and he thinks Briana will be an amazing mother. It was a surprise at first, but he and Briana are very, very close friends and this has brought them even closer," a friend of the couple said, reports People magazine.

The pair met through mutual friends earlier this year following Tomlinson's breakup with longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder. Jungwirth and Tomlinson, 23, casually dated but were not considered a couple. Nonetheless, sources told People the British boy band member plans to be a "hands on" dad and be at Jungwirth's side through the pregnancy.

"They are both really happy and although they aren't in a relationship, their friendship is extremely strong and they are both really excited about the baby," the insider said. "It's early days and Briana and the baby's health are the most important things right now."

The families of Tomlinson and Jungwirth met in Los Angles over the Fourth of July holiday weekend and got along very well. The families are excited and supportive about the pregnancy.

Tomlinson's mom, Johanna, has reportedly grown close to Jungwirth. The baby will be Johanna's first grandchild. She gave birth to twins in February 2014 and has seven children. The crooner's mother has plenty of experience with pregnancy and child-rearing to share.

Hollywood Life reports that 23-year-old Jungwirth is a fashion stylist and assists on fashion shoots in Los Angeles. She is an extremely private person who does not have a social media account.

The first public sighting of Tomlinson and Jungwirth was in May when they attended Snoop Dogg's album release party held at DBA Nightclub in West Hollywood. Pictures of the pair were taken outside the Hollywood venue and, later, as they held hands entering Tomlinson's limo to leave.
