Shoppers were not too pleased with Wednesday's heavily hyped Amazon Prime Day. Angry shoppers complained on Twitter that items were selling out too quickly and that many of the items that were discounted were things they did not want, CNN Money reports.

Amazon promoted the big sale as being "bigger than Black Friday." The company said there would be big savings on electronics, home appliances, back-to-school items and more.

Shoppers complained that many of the limited-time only "Lightning Deals" sold out too quick.

Amazon defended Prime Day and addressed some of the complaints that shoppers had.

"We have years of experience with these types of events, and we stagger the deals to make sure the fun will last through tonight," the company stated.

During the sale, Amazon hailed it as a success and said by its calculations it had beat last year's Black Friday.

But Twitter users called the items up for sale as rather disappointing.

Some shoppers questioned whether or not they should be paying $99 per year for Amazon Prime membership since Prime Day was such a disappointment.

Some Lightning Deal items that sold out quickly resulted in a waiting list. Amazon would put shoppers into the waiting list and give them their chances of being able to purchase the item. Many were upset when they saw their chances were "low" at receiving the item.

There were some happy shoppers that took advantage of items like a $75 32-inch TV or the new Amazon Echo Speaker for $130, according to NBC News.
