New England Patriots Julian Edelman: Tom Brady 'A Little Ticked Off' Over Deflategate Scandal
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is waiting on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to announce his decision on the appeal of the passer's four-game suspension. According to his slot receiver, Brady is getting a little bit aggravated.
ESPN reported Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman spoke with Brady about the impending appeal: "He's fired up -- we'll say that. You don't want a mad Tom Brady, and he's a little ticked off." Edelman was participating in his football clinic over the weekend. He also stated he is not focused on Brady's upcoming appeals decision but is focused on the upcoming season.
Brady has been suspended four games for his role in the Deflategate scandal that occurred during this year's AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. Commissioner Goodell told CNBC a decision will be made within the coming weeks.
During the AFC Title game, Brady threw an interception to Colts linebacker D'Qwell Jackson. After the play was over, Jackson handed the ball to the Colts equipment manager for safekeeping as a souvenir. Early reports suggested Jackson was the first to suspect the ball was under-inflated, but Jackson said he did not notice anything wrong with the ball he caught and he actually did not even know the ball was taken or the controversy existed until he was being driven home from the team's charter plane after the Colts had arrived in Indianapolis.
The Patriots won the game by the final score of 45-7, eventually winning the Super Bowl a couple of weeks later.
If the decision stands, the Patriots are without their Hall of Fame quarterback for the first four games of the season. Second-string quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be under center against the Steelers, Bills, Jaguars and Cowboys.
In other Patriots news, kicker Stephen Gostkowski recently agreed to a four-year, $17.2 million contract extension. Gostkowski, who is one of the best kickers in the game, had a great season in 2014. He was 35/37 in field goals made/field goals attempted.
