Worst Super Bowl Commercials Ever: Looking Back At The 5 Worst Ads Of All Time
One of the most anticipated parts of the Super Bowl are the advertisements. Now, while some ads go down in history as being legendarily awesome, others go down in history as being the worst of all time. Here, in no particular order, are the worst Super Bowl ads of all time.
5. GoDaddy: there is no one particular GoDaddy ad that stands out as the worst of all time -- they're all equally offensive and ineffective.
4. Holiday Inn's Bob Johnson ad: because nothing says "edgy" like marginalizing an already marginalized group, Holiday Inn's comparison of their hotel to a transsexual person at a high school reunion definitely falls under the worst of all time.
3. Dirt Devil's Fred Astaire ad: because technology wasn't as advanced at the time, the 1997 Dirt Devil ad featuring Fred Astaire dancing with a Dirt Devil wasn't catchy...it was creepy. It didn't help that Astaire had been dead for 10 years at the time...and his depiction looked like his embalmed body.
2. Groupon's Tibet ad: granted, when people go to Groupon.com, they go for good deals, not good taste. But the 2011 Groupon commercial featuring Timothy Hutton making light of the human rights violations in Tibet crossed the line from edgy to gross.
1. Life minders.com's 2000 ad: you know an ad is bad when it causes the company to go bankrupt shortly after its debut. But that's exactly what happened shortly after LifeMinders.com debuted their 2000 Super Bowl ad.
